Basin faucets are an indispensable part of our daily lives, providing a constant flow of water for various hygiene activities. To maintain their functionality, appearance, and to ensure a long lifespan, it is crucial to adopt proper maintenance practices.

1. Regular Cleaning: Regular cleaning is the cornerstone of faucet maintenance. Use a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and water to wipe down the faucet body and handles at least once a week. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can scratch the finish. For brushed nickel, chrome, antique bronze, or gold-plated faucets, use a non-abrasive cleaner specifically designed for these surfaces to retain their shine.

2. Handle Care: Brass-bodied faucets with zinc handles should be treated gently to prevent damage. Lubricate the handle mechanism periodically to ensure smooth operation. If your faucet has ceramic cartridges, refrain from excessive force when turning the handles to prevent wear and tear.

3. Aerator Maintenance: The aerator is often the first place where mineral buildup occurs due to hard water. Unscrew the aerator every few months, clean it with vinegar or a lime scale remover, and rinse thoroughly before reassembling. This will help maintain steady water pressure and prevent drips.

4. Water Spout Inspection: Check the spout for any signs of corrosion, leaks, or discoloration. If there's any rust or mineral deposits, soak a cloth in white vinegar and wrap it around the affected area for several hours to dissolve the buildup.

5. Chrome Plating Care: The thickness of chrome plating on your faucet contributes to its durability. Wipe the surface dry after each use to prevent water spots and tarnishing. Do not use harsh chemicals near the faucet as they can degrade the protective coating.

6. Cartridge Replacement: A 35mm ceramic cartridge typically lasts for 500,000 life cycles. However, over time, it may need replacement due to wear and tear. If you notice difficulty in adjusting water temperature or continuous dripping, it could indicate a worn-out cartridge. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions or seek professional assistance for cartridge replacement.

7. Water Pressure Check: Periodically verify that the water pressure falls within the recommended range (0.3Mpa to 1.5Mpa). High pressure can cause internal components to fail prematurely while low pressure might affect performance.

8. Winter Protection: In colder climates, if the faucet is connected to outdoor pipes, ensure to insulate them properly to prevent freezing and potential damage to the faucet's interior parts.

9. Professional Servicing: While regular DIY maintenance is important, schedule annual professional checks to detect and resolve issues that may not be visible to the untrained eye. This ensures the faucet operates optimally and extends its lifespan.
